Biotechnology in Medicine – EUROPEAN BIOTECH WEEK 2015

The event will take place on October 15, 2015 at Istituto di Farmacologia Traslazionale, Area della Ricerca d Roma 2 – “Tor Vergata”, Via del Fosso del Cavaliere, 100 – 00133 Roma from 9.30 am to 13.00

The Open Doors at Istituto di Farmacologia Traslazionale is an informative meeting directed at High School students and teachers. The purpose of the event is to illustrate the importance of the biotechnology in biomedical research. Biotechnology is a resource for the development of new drugs, innovative and more effective therapies and new diagnostic tools.

The event is organized in a session of 4 lectures. Some issues of great interest will be discussed, ranging from stem cells, genetic vaccines to development of animal models to study human disease.

  1. The genetic vaccines: a biotech product for the prevention and treatment of diseases
  2. Stem Cell Biotechnology: current uses and future challenges.
  3. The well-being of laboratory animals: how the new legislation protects animals used for scientific purposes.
  4. Advances in understanding the molecular basis of neurodegeneration: what can we learn from animal models.

The researchers will guide the participants to the visit of the laboratories of the Institute.
